Day 30 - Fiyah!
My very own BFR Fiyah! T-Shirt! |
Did another short barefoot run today which ended up being close to 4 miles. It was cold and overcast, but man, it felt good. After the initial shock of the cold, my feet eventually adjust. They go from stinging to tingling. Its an indescribable feeling. Like running on blunt pins and needles. Ok. So maybe that doesn't sound cool, but for me its heaven. Like I can feel every single nerve receptor. I run on pavement and asphalt mostly. I know there are people who hate that stuff, but I'm starting to really enjoy it. Yeah. I'm a glutton for punishment. I know it. I would love to do more trail running, but I think I had better work on some strength training first. My knee is in recovery mode and I don't want to blow it.
The flex print. Nice and clean. |
Speaking of that little bitch, my knee... She fared pretty well on my run today. No angst and no pain. Not even a twinge. She was tight though. I felt the tightness starting up on the bottom of my kneecap towards the end of my run so I backed off and walked. I stretched my leg a bit and the tightness subsided. No heel pain either. Relaxation was key. I tend to stiffen my ankles when I'm running especially when its cold out. So relaxing my ankles when I lift my legs helps. I also tried to keep my cadence up and focused on landing straight under my body. Whatever I did today worked. Success. Fiyah!

Well, I've got the opposite problem from the northern cold, my thermometer just gave me an outside air temp of 45C (113F) man its hot outside you can feel it dry your lungs out by just breathing. You would get more than a tingle in your feet running on the bitumen, probably severe burning.
ReplyDeleteRelaxing is everything, if every I feel myself tensing too much when running just let your arms go lose and floppy, that brings you out of that tension.
Ooooh, looks nice on you, though I imagine most things do ;)...
ReplyDeleteDiggin the red background also!
Will you welcome me to your 'owners of bitchy knees club'?
ReplyDeleteI banged my knee a week ago and it is still complaining though less and less every day. Glad to hear yours is behaving better.
@Luke - Thanks for the sweet comment. Your mama taught you well. ;-) I love the red too. Goes perfect with the "Fiyah!"
ReplyDelete@ Ewa - Girl, the bitchy knees club is always accepting new members. So sorry to hear about yours. Give her some time and show her who's boss. Hee Hee.
The shirt looks great. Glad to hear you are back out there. I need to get out there and run more. I've been using the cold in Ohio as an excuse not to run.

The shirt is awesome! And I'm glad you got a good run in and that your body is behaving itself. Keep doing whatever it is that you're doing!
ReplyDeleteI just ordered my shirt! I'm really excited for it and warmer weather!
ReplyDeleteShirt is very cool. And its great to be back on the road again. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteMight have to get me a shirt.
Jen - Let me know how your shirt turns out. I've only ordered two shirts from them so far, but they seem to be pretty high quality and their attention to detail (as far as the printing goes) has been dead on.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking these shirts more and more. Now I have to decide which one to purchase.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your recent bfr went well. Keep doing that cross-training too and stay off roofs.
Ken - thanks for the encouragement, man. Um. I think you're the one that needs to stay off of roofs though. :-) Let me know how you like the shirt should you decide to buy one.
